Men's Ice Hockey Keeps Hot Streak Going With Win Over WNE

Milton, MA - The Curry Men's Hockey team defeated the Western New England Golden Bears on Saturday by a final score of 3-2. With the win the Colonels are now 19-4-1 on the season, and 14-3-0 in CCC play. The Golden Bears are now 5-16-3 and 2-12-3.

The first period saw neither team score, but not for a lack of trying. The two teams combined for 32 shots on goal in the first period. The Colonels would open the scoring early in the second period when George Vonakis scored just a minute in on assists from Austan Bellefeuille and Jacob Crespo. Just 30 seconds later the Colonels would double their score when Eelis Laaksonen scored from Matt Connor and Ryan Prewitt, making it 2-0. But the Golden Bears would cut the lead in half minutes later when an unlucky bounce handed them a shorthanded goal. They would then tie it up four minutes later on a power play goal. The game would sit tied at two heading into the third period. The Colonels would retake the lead early in the third on a nifty give-and-go between Gage Dill and Laaksonen, with Dill finding the back of the net. Tao Ishizuka also had an assist on the play. Despite WNE pulling the goalie late, they were unable to tie things up, sending the Colonels home winners.

Curry dominated possession, and it showed in the shot differential, as the Colonels had 57 shots on goal compared to the Golden Bears' 32. Curry goaltender Shane Soderwall picked up his 13th win on the season by stopping 30 of those shots. The Colonels also won the faceoff battle, winning 43 of the 70 faceoffs.

Up Next - The Colonels will close out their regular season next Friday when they host Suffolk at 7pm. Prior to the game the Colonels will honor their seniors as part of senior night.
