Men's Ice Hockey Knocks off Wentworth to Pick Up Tenth Straight Win

BOSTON - Curry College men's ice hockey increased its win streak to 10 straight games with a 4-1 victory over the Wentworth Institute of Technology Friday night in a Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup at Allied Veterans Memorial Rink.

With the win, the Colonels improve to an overall record of 18-4-1 and a conference record of 13-3-0.

Senior captain Tao Ishizuka (Providence, R.I.) opened the floodgates just 54 seconds into the game when he scored his ninth goal of the season to put the Colonels on top 1-0. He was assisted by sophomore Matt Connor (Nottingham, N.H.) and junior Eelis Laaksonen (Espoo, Finland).

Curry scored twice in the second, starting with a goal by sophomore Ben Biester (Danville, Calif.) five minutes into the period with an assist coming from sophomore Blake Rothstein (Massapequa, N.Y.). Ishizuka gave the Colonels a 3-1 lead 10 minutes later, assisted by Laaksonen and junior Jacob Crespo (Mount Holly, N.J.).

Sophomore Taurin Haddon-Harris (Boca Raton, Fla.) capped off scoring in the contest with an empty net goal with only 16 seconds remaining on the game clock.

Freshman goaltender Shane Soderwall (Algonquin, Ill.) improved to 12-2-0 on the season, making 23 saves to pick up the win.

Curry College returns to action on Saturday, February 10th, to host Western New England University beginning at 3 p.m.
