Men's Ice Hockey Knocks Off #8 UNE

Biddeford, ME - The Curry Colonels Men's Ice Hockey team defeated #8 UNE on Friday by a final score of 3-2. With the win, the Colonels now sit in first place of the CCC, and have a 14-4-1 record on the season, and 9-3-0 in CCC play. The Nor'easters now sit at 13-3-3 and 7-2-3.

The Colonels opened the scoring with a Grady Friedman goal 13 minutes into the game, his first of the season. Minutes later, Curry doubled their lead on a Gage Dill goal, his seventh of the season, assisted by Tao Ishizuka and Eelis Laaksonen. The Colonels would lead 2-0 at the first intermission. UNE would cut the lead in half on a power play goal four minutes into the second period. But the Colonels would get the goal right back seven minutes later when Ishizuka scored his sixth goal of the season, assisted by Matt Connor and Gage. The goal came on a Colonel power play.The Nor'easters would make things interesting, scoring another power play goal midway through the third, making the score 3-2. After a penalty with a minute remaining gave UNE a power play, they fired off four shots in the final 60 seconds, but none of them found the back of the net, giving the Colonels the 3-2 win.

The shots were fairly even, with UNE holding a slight 36-34 lead. Faceoffs were also even, as the Nor'easters won 31 to Curry's 29. Shane Soderwall picked up his eighth win of the season by making 34 saves on 36 shots.
