Men’s Ice Hockey Takes Down Golden Bears

CANTON, Mass. - Curry College enjoyed its highest scoring output of the season, defeating Western New England University 6-0 in Commonwealth Coast Conference men's ice hockey action at the Canton Ice House.

With the win, the Colonels improve to an overall record of 13-4-1 and 8-3 in conference play.

Freshman Wilhelm Patriksson (Stockholm, Sweden) got the onslaught started, scoring the first goal of the game with 4:29 seconds remaining in the first period. He was assisted by graduate student Austan Bellefeuille (Framingham, Mass.) and senior George Vonakis (Abingdon, Md.).

The Colonels would score three times in the second period, starting with an unassisted goal by sophomore Killian Rowlee ( Fulton, N.Y.). Junior Eelis Laaksonen (Espoo, Finland) was next to score, with assists credited to sophomore Jesse Galassi (Lockport, N.Y.) and senior Tao Ishizuka (Providence, R.I.). The final goal of the period was scored by Galassi, assisted on the play by Laaksonen and Ishizuka.

The scoring frenzy continued into the third, with sophomore Taurin Haddon-Harris (Boca Raton, Fla.) joining the list of scorers, with assists going to sophomore Tyler Drummond (Baldwin, N.Y. ) and Vonakis. Laaksonen scored again on a powerplay with two minutes remaining for the final blow of the contest. Assists were credited to Vonakis and sophomore Matt Connor (Nottingham, N.H.)

Freshman Shane Soderwall (Algonquin, Ill.) kept the Golden Bears off the scoreboard, making 21 saves in 60 minutes of goalkeeping for the Colonels.

Curry College returns to action on Friday, January 26th, in a road game against the University of New England beginning at 7 p.m.
