Men's Ice Hockey Outshines Golden Bears

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Curry College fended off Western New England University, defeating the Golden Bears 3-2 in a Commonwealth Coast Conference men's ice hockey game at Olympia Ice Center.

With the win, the Colonels improve to an overall record of 12-4-1 and 7-3 in conference play.

All three of Curry's goals were scored within the first eight minutes of play, starting with senior captain Tao Ishizuka's (Providence, R.I.) opener just 1:27 into the contest. Ishizuka was assisted by junior Eelis Laaksonen (Espoo, Finland) and sophomore Gage Dill (Estero, Fla.).

Two minutes later, Ishizuka found freshman JP Moreira (Mississauga, Ontario), who scored to put the Colonels on top 2-0. The final Curry goal was scored by sophomore Manny Cabral (Providence, R.I.), assisted on the play by freshman Ryan Prewitt (Abington, Mass.).

Freshman Shane Soderwall (Algonquin, Ill.) played the entire game in net for the Colonels, making 14 saves in the win.

Curry College hosts Western New England in a rematch at the Canton Ice House on Saturday, January 20th, beginning at 3 p.m.
