Men's Ice Hockey Glides Past Johnson & Wales

CANTON, Mass. - The Curry College men's ice hockey team earned a 3-1 victory over Johnson & Wales University Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at the Canton Ice House.

With the victory, the Colonels improve to 9-4-1 overall on the season.

Curry got on the board first at the tail end of the first period on the fifth goal of the season from sophomore Gage Dill (Estero, Fla.). Dill got his own rebound and deposited a shot short side on the man advantage to put the hosts ahead 1-0. Killian Rowlee (Fulton, N.Y.) and Tao Ishizuka (Providence, R.I.) earned helpers on the play.

JWU got the goal back just 33 seconds into the second to knot the score at 1-1, but graduate student Austan Bellefeuille (Framingham, Mass.) put the Colonels back on top at 2-1 on a one-timer late in the second period.

Just over six minutes into the third, Curry added an insurance marker on the second goal of the season from captain George Vonakis (Abingdon, Md.), cementing Curry's 3-1 victory.

In net, senior Oscar Wahlgren (Gothenburg, Sweden) earned his first collegiate win, turning aside 19 out of 20 shots faced.

Next up for the Colonels, they will return to Commonwealth Coast Conference action on Friday when they travel to rival Endicott for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
