Men's Ice Hockey Barrels Past Wentworth

CANTON, Mass. - Curry College defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology 3-1 in a Commonwealth Coast Conference men's ice hockey game Friday night during the ninth annual Teddy Bear Toss at the Canton Ice House.

With the win, the Colonels improve to an overall record of 7-2-1 and 5-2 in conference play.

Just 3:42 seconds into the game, sophomore Gage Dill (Estero, Fla.) scored a goal, sending hundreds of teddy bears onto the ice as part of the team's ninth annual Teddy Bear Toss event. All proceeds will be donated to Globe Santa, a non-profit organization with the Boston Globe Foundation that donates toys to children in need. The Colonels scored twice more in the first period, the second goal arriving just 50 seconds after the first when freshman Blake Rothstein (Massapequa, N.Y.) scored off the rebound of a shot by sophomore Taurin Haddon-Harris (Boca Raton, Fla.).

The final goal of the period was scored during a powerplay in the ninth minute of play by sophomore Jesse Galassi (Lockport, N.Y.). Assists were credited to Austan Bellefeuille (Framingham, Mass.) and Manny Cabral (Providence, R.I.)

Shane Soderwall (Algonquin, Ill.) played the entire game in net for the Colonels, making 27 saves in the win.

Curry College returns to action on Saturday, December 2nd, in a road rematch against Wentworth beginning at 3 p.m.
