Men's Ice Hockey Skates to 5-2 Victory Over Suffolk

BOSTON - Four different players scored goals as Curry College skated to a 5-2 victory over Suffolk University Friday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference men's ice hockey action at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink.

With the win, the Colonels improve to an overall record of 2-1-1 and 2-1-0 in conference play.

Freshman Blake Rothstein (Massapequa, N.Y.) opened up scoring in the game, scoring the first goal of his collegiate career to give Curry a 1-0 lead after just eight and a half minutes of play. He was assisted on the play by his classmate Nolan McDonough (Dorchester, Mass.). McDonough picked up another assist just three minutes later when he and Ben Nichols (Andover, Mass.) assisted sophomore Matt Connor (Nottingham, N.H.) on his first goal of the season to give Curry a 2-1 lead.

The Colonels scored twice more in the second period, the first being a shorthanded goal by sophomore Killian Rowlee (Fulton, N.Y.) with assists from senior George Vonakis (Abingdon, Md.) and junior Jacob Crespo (Mount Holly, N.J.). Junior Eelis Laaksonen (Espoo, Finland) scored the second goal on a powerplay halfway through the second period. This time the assist came from Connor and senior Tao Ishizuka (Providence, R.I.).

Laaksonen scored his second goal of the contest halfway through the period to give the Colonels a dominant 5-1 lead over Suffolk. He was assisted by sophomore Gage Dill (Estero, Fla.).

Shane Soderwall (Algonquin, Ill.) played the entire game in net for the Colonels, finishing with 14 saves in the victory.

Curry College plays Suffolk again on Saturday (11/11) in a CCC matchup at the Canton Ice House beginning at 7 p.m.
