#6 Colonels Shut Down Suffolk

EAST BOSTON, Mass. - #6 Curry College Men's Ice Hockey defeated Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Suffolk University by a final score of 5-1 Friday evening.

With the win, Curry moves forward with an overall record of 19-4-1 and 15-4-1 in the CCC.

#6 Curry College struck first in the CCC matchup in East Boston, Mass., with freshman defenseman Matt Connor (Nottingham, N.H.) netting a goal assisted by Gage Dill (Estero, Fla.) pushing the Colonels to a 1-0 lead just over three minutes into the matchup. 

The hosting Rams would respond four minutes later, Kyle Valiquette finding the back of the net, evening the contest at one goal a piece. 

The second period saw two power-play goals by the visiting Colonels, junior forward George Vonakis pushing the Colonels to a 2-1 lead on a shot assisted by Makem Demers (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Matt Connor 5:19 into the second. Curry freshman forward Gage Dill granted the Colonels a 3-1 lead on another power-play goal under two minutes later, assisted by Eelis Laaksonen (Espoo, Finland) and Mark Zhukov (St. Petersburg, Russia). 

Curry's Vonakis grabbed his second goal of the evening 2:12 into the final period, propelling the Colonels to a 4-1 lead assisted by Tarek Paranica (Grand Forks, N.D.) and Billy Roche (Braintree, Mass.). Senior forward Mark Zhukov netted the final goal of the contest 9:39 into the third period, assisted by Gage Dill to close out the Commonwealth Coast Conference victory on the road.

Curry's graduate netminder Reid Cooper turned aside 30 of the 31 shots he faced in the Commonwealth Coast Conference win on the road.

Next up for the Colonels, they continue Commonwealth Coast Conference action Saturday afternoon as they host #3 Endicott College at 3 PM.
