Hockey Tripped Up by Endicott

CANTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's ice hockey team suffered a 7-2 loss to Endicott College on Saturday afternoon at the Canton Ice House. The win moves the Gulls to 3-0-0 while the loss drops the Colonels to 3-2-0 overall.

Endicott got off to a fast start, scoring three in the first period. Mitch Shaheen (North Andover, Mass.) got things started for the visitors, followed by Elliott Clemmons (Rochester, N.Y.), and Connor Beatty (Concord, N.H.) in goal column.

The Gulls tacked on another in the second, coming by way of a shorthanded goal from Zach Mazur (Lancaster, N.Y.). The marker was assisted by Shaheen and Cam Speck (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) as Endicott entered the second intermission with a 4-0 lead.

The final period featured five goals, including three separated by just 35 seconds. Campbell Balk (West Olive, Mich.) opened the frame with a tally coming off assists from Connor Amsley (Carlisle, Pa.) and Kevin Craig (Hyannis, Mass.). The Colonels got on the board following a power play goal from junior Kalle Sundell (Helsinki, Finland). Beatty netted his second of the game with 5:35 left in regulation followed by a marker from teammate Noah Strawn just five seconds later to go up 7-1. Curry would find the back of the net once more before the end of the contest. Senior Tristan Morin (Unionville, Conn.) scored with 1:23 left coming off helpers from Sundell and junior Alex Bouchard (Winnipeg, Manitoba).  

The Colonels outshot the Gulls, 34-28. Curry was 1-for-7 on the PP while Endicott was 0-for-4.

Elijah Harris (Haverhill, Mass.) recorded 32 saves in the victory. Senior Cody Murch (Raleigh, N.C.) was credited with the loss, making 10 saves. Freshman Roland Polasek (Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic) played the final two periods and made 14 saves.

Curry will stay at home to begin a home-and-home series with Nichols College on Friday, March 26. The start time is set for 6:50 p.m.
