Curran's Hat Trick Carries Hockey Over Suffolk

CANTON, Mass. – Junior Mic Curran (Arlington, Mass.) netted a hat trick to lead the Curry College men's ice hockey team to its third straight victory, a 4-2 triumph over Suffolk University on Saturday afternoon at the Canton Ice House. After the win, the Colonels sit at 3-0-0 overall while the Rams fall to 1-1-0.

After a scoreless first, Curry got the initial goal of the contest 2:05 into the second. The tally was scored by Curran and assisted by senior Viktor Jansson (Stockholm, Sweden). Suffolk netted the equalizer 5:20 later, which was put home by sophomore Max Rand (Marston Mills, Mass.). Junior Billy Roche (Braintree, Mass.) and senior Joe Vingi (Narragansett, R.I.) picked up the assists. Curran broke the tie 2:30 later with another goal, this time assisted by Jansson and junior Alex Ochterbeck (Dallas, Texas). The Colonels found the back of the net one more time in the frame.  Freshman Greg Barnych (Smithtown, N.Y.) scored his first collegiate goal with 4:09 remaining in the stanza. The marker was assisted by classmate Tao Ishizuka (Providence, R.I.) and senior Tristan Morin (Unionville, Conn.).

Suffolk pulled to within one just 1:26 into the third on a goal by sophomore Devin Lowe (Owings Mills, Md.). The assists were credited to senior Miller Rubin (Long Grove, Ill.) and sophomore Nick Lachaine (Lakeville, Conn.). The Rams were unable to net the equalizer while Curran capped off the hat trick with an insurance goal for Curry to make the final score 4-2.   

Both teams came up empty on the power play. Senior goalie Cody Murch (Raleigh, N.C.) picked up the win in between the pipes, tallying 30 saves. Suffolk sophomore goaltender Cal Wilcox (Pomfret, Conn.) was credited with the loss while making 25 saves.

Curry will be back in action on Friday, March 19 at Endicott College. Puck drop is set for 6:00 p.m.
