Hockey Blanks Becker, 4-0

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Curry College men's ice hockey team shut out Becker College, 4-0, on Saturday night at the Worcester Ice Center.

The Colonels (2-0-0 overall) scored its first goal 9:30 into the opening period on a tally from freshman Mark Zhukov (St. Petersburg, Russia). Juniors Alexander Bouchard (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and Mike Pellegrini (Markham, Ontario) picked up the assists. The 1-0 score held until junior Tarek Paranica (Grand Forks, N.D.) found the back of the net with 6:08 left in the frame to give Curry a 2-0 advantage after the first period.

The Colonels tacked on another in the second as sophomore Timmy Kent (Parkland, Fla.) put a shot past Hawks' senior goaltender Zach Skop (Pittstown, N.J.) with 9:24 remaining in the period to increase the advantage to 2-0. Senior Eetu Selanne (Coto de Caza, Calif.) and Zhukov were credited with the helpers.  

The Colonels added one more in the final frame on a power play marker from sophomore Nicholas Favaro (Vaughn, Ontario). Juniors Nick Magill-Diaz (Troy, Mich.) and Mic Curran (Arlington, Mass.) picked up the helpers.

The 4-0 lead stood as Curry walked away with its first clean sheet of the season.

Senior Cody Murch (Raleigh, N.C.) registered the win in between the pipes, converting 20 saves in his first career shutout. Skop tallied 38 stops in the setback.

The Colonels outshot the Hawks (0-2-0 overall) 42-20 for the game. Curry was able to cash in once on the power play, going 1-for-5 while Becker finished 0-for-2.

The Colonels open a home-and-home series at Suffolk on Friday, March 12 at 1:45 p.m. The Hawks are off to Southern Maine on March 9 for a 5:00 p.m. puck drop with the Huskies.
