Hockey Earns Wins Over Westfield State, 5-1, and Neumann, 8-3, in the Martha's Vineyard Classic

MILTON, Mass.  – The Curry College hockey team went 2-0 on the weekend at the Martha's Vineyard Classic in Oak Bluffs, Mass.

On Friday night, the Colonels defeated Westfield State, 5-1.   With the win the Colonels improved to 10-5-1 overall while the Owls fell to 3-8-1 on the season.

Curry got two goals from junior Zachary White (Milford, Conn.) and a tally each from seniors Phil Kiss (Burlington, Ontario) and Ryan Fitzgerald (Cary, N.C.) and sophomore Alec Mono (Las Vegas, Nev.).  The Colonels got two assists from senior Shane Tracy (Bow, N.H.) and freshmen Kasper Kjellkvist (Vaxjo, Sweden) and Michael Snow (Medford, Mass.) while junior Mack Heisinger (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and sophomores Lionel Mauron (Lausanne, Switzerland) and Mono each earned one.

Curry outshot Westfield 44-21 and were 1-4 on the power-play while the Owls were 0-2.

Freshman Frank Cundiff (Oceanside, N.Y.) earned the win in net making 20 saves.

On Saturday, in the final game of the tournament, the Colonels defeated Neumann College, 8-3.  The win moves Curry to 11-5-1 on the season while the Knights fall to 4-11-1.

Freshman Michael Snow had a career-high leading all scorers with six points on three goals and three assists.  Other goal scorers for the Colonels were: seniors Jarret Kup (Rosseau, Ontario), Adam Valadao (Ajax, Ontario) Ryan Fitzgerald (Cary, N.C.) and Phil Kiss (Burlington, Ontario) and junior Zachary White (Milford, Conn.).  Sophomore Lionel Mauron (Lausanne, Switzerland) and White each had two assists while Kiss, Kup, senior Shane Tracy (Bow, N.H.), junior Mack Heisinger (Winnipeg, Manitoba), sophomores Alec Mono (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Jordan Williamson (Okotoks, AB) and freshmen Joseph Thielen (Huntington Beach, Calif.), Viktor Jansson (Stockholm, Sweden) and Tyler Lindstrom (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) each had one helper.

Curry outshot Neumann 47-23 and were 3-8 on the power-play while the Knights were 2-5.

Freshman Cody Murch (Raleigh, N.C.) earned the victory in net making 20 stops.

Curry is next in action when they host Salve Regina University in a Commonwealth Coast Conference match-up on January 19 at 6:50 p.m.
