Hockey Suffers 8-1 Loss to Hobart College

MILTON, Mass.- Curry College lost to Hobart College 8-1, in men's ice hockey action on Saturday night in Milton, Mass.  The Statesmen improve to 10-4-1 overall, while the Colonels fall to 5-7-2.

The first period went scoreless with both teams having just six shots on net.  The Colonels found themselves in the penalty box three times over the 20 minutes while the Statesmen were in the box twice.     

Hobart took a three-goal lead in the second period scoring three goals in three minutes.  The Statesmen took advantage of a Curry penalty at the 9:40 minute mark when sophomore Brad Richard (New Bedford, MA) took a slap shot from the blueline past Curry’s goaltender, sophomore Robert Dawson (Woodbury, MN).  One minute later Hobart went up by two when sophomore Cam Miller (Cheswick, PA) scored off assists from sophomores Bobby Hannah (Burbank, CA) and Mike White (Rochdale, MA).  The Statesmen got one more to go up by three after junior Gregory Ciciola (Yorktown Heights, NY) collected a loose puck in front of the net and tipped it in for his first goal of the night.  Curry got on the board late in the third to cut Hobart’s lead to just two when junior Shane Geib (Stony Plain, AB) received a pass from junior Ryan Barlock (Niles, IL), and shot the puck past sophomore goaltender Nick Broadwater (Portland, ME).

Just two minutes into the final period Hobart scored its first of five third period goals.  Curry’s freshman goaltender, David Aman (Souderton, PA) came in to the game for Dawson after the fourth Statesmen goal.  This was the first game for the rookie in a Colonel uniform.  Hobart got goals from Miller, his second of the night, senior Matthew Wallace (Skaneateles, NY) who scored two also, senior Patrick Moriarty (Lloyd Harbor, NY) and freshman Brett Riley (Needham, MA).  Two of the goals were off of power-plays.  The teams combined for 13 third period penalities.

Both squads finished with a total of 36 shots.   The Colonels had 34 face-off wins and the Statesmen 33.  Hobart was 3-8 on power-plays while Curry was 0-7.

Hobart’s Broadwater had a solid night in net making 35 total saves. Curry goaltender Dawson made 19 saves and Aman made nine in the loss. 

Curry's next game is away at Wentworth on Thursday, January 20 for a 7:00 p.m. game start.  Hobart travels to Nichols College on Sunday, January 16 for a 1:35 p.m. start.
