Hockey Edged 2-1 by #4 Nationally-Ranked Manhattanville

MILTON, Mass.- Curry College lost to the #4 nationally-ranked Manhattanville College 2-1, in men's ice hockey action on Thursday night in Milton, Mass.  The Valiants improve to 13-3-1 overall, while the Colonels fall to 5-6-2.

Manhattanville took the lead midway through the first period when sophomore Brett Skalski (Exton, PA) scored off a power-play goal.  Sophomore Casey Brugman (Winthrop, MA) was called for tripping at the 8:32 minute mark.  With just one minute into the penalty, senior Lem Randall (Yellowknife, N.W.T) sent a pass to teammate Skalski for the score.  The Colonels finished with just four shots on net, while the Valiants had eight.   

The second period went scoreless as neither team could find the back of the net.  Manhattanville had three power-play opportunities but couldn’t capitalize.  The Colonels outshot the Valiants 13-8.  Curry’s sophomore goaltender Robert Dawson (Woodbury, MN) played solid in net making eight saves.  Manhattanville’s goaltender, junior Pierre-Olivier Lemieux (Rimouski, Quebec), made 13 stops to keep their teams lead at 1-0. 

The Colonels tied the game seven minutes into the third when freshman Brad Devereaux (Duxbury, MA) scored his first goal in a Curry uniform.  Sophomores Brugman and Ian DeLong (Lions, PA) were credited with the assist.  Manhattanville wasted no time in taking back the lead when senior Mickey Lang (Reno, NV) took a slap shot from the blue-line that soared past Dawson.  Lang was assisted by sophomore Jason Bowles (Elkhorn, Manatoba) and Skalski.  The Valiants second goal of the game would prove to be the game-winner.

Curry finished with a total of 29 shots while Manhattanville finished with 24.   The Valiants had 30 face-off wins and the Colonels 27. 

Manhattanville’s Lemieux made 28 total saves in net and Curry’s Dawson made 22 saves in net.

Curry's next game is at home on Saturday, January 15 at 4:35 p.m. against Hobart College.  Manhattanville travels to Neumann on Friday, January 21 for a 7:15 p.m. game start.
