#12 Hockey Falls to Bowdoin College 6-4

BRUNSWICK, Maine - In his first game of the season, Bowdoin's Jeff Fanning netted a hat trick to lead the Polar Bears men's ice hockey team to a 6-4 victory over Curry on Wednesday at Sidney J. Watson Arena. The Polar Bears improve to 6-2-0 this season while the Colonels, ranked 12th in the latest Division III poll, lose their third straight game and fall to 7-3-1.

Bowdoin dominated the pace of play in the early going, getting a first-period tally from Kyle Hanson and a pair of goals just 1:58 apart in the second stanza from Fanning and Aaron O'Callahan to take a 3-0
advantage. After pulling starting goaltender Steven Jakiel, Curry bounced back with a late score in the period from John Williams to trail 3-1 after forty minutes.

Ryan Barlock and Colin MacCormack traded goals for Curry and Bowdoin, respectively, in the opening moments of the third period, but a shorthanded rush by Williams trimmed the Bowdoin lead to 4-3 with 10:14 to go. With under three minutes to play, again shorthanded, Curry's Josh Kamrass knocked home a rebound with 2:47 remaining to tie the game.

But Fanning rescued Bowdoin just 61 seconds later on the powerplay by knocking home a loose puck in the slot with 1:46 to go. After the Colonels pulled the goalie for an extra attacker, Fanning completed his
hat trick with the empty-netter with 22 seconds remaining.

Jakiel made 16 stops in 33 minutes for the Colonels before giving way to Robert Dawson, who stopped 13 shots in nearly 26 minutes of play. Chris Rossi made 19 saves for the Polar Bears in the victory. Bowdoin held a 35-23 advantage in shots and went 2-9 on the powerplay. Curry converted on 1 of 7 chances and were called for 12 penalties (24 minutes). Bowdoin committed 10 penalties (23 minutes).
