Men's Basketball Falls on Senior Day to Gulls

Milton, MA - The Curry College Men's Basketball team fell to the Endicott Gulls on Wednesday by a final score of 81-78. The loss drops the Colonels to 11-13 on the season, and to 5-10 in CCC play. The Gulls are now 16-8 and 10-5.

Before the game the Colonels honored their two senior players, Lowelle Torres and DJ Wright, as well as student-manager Phil Shenkman. After things were tied at eight, the Colonels went on an 8-0 run to double the Gulls up six minutes into the game. The Colonels lead would fluctuate between two and nine points over the next seven minutes. The Gulls then went on a 10-2 run to get back within one. The Gulls would eventually take the lead, and led 42-41 at halftime.

A 12-1 run over the first four minutes of the second half had the Gulls up 12, but the Colonels did not back down. A 16-3 run over the next six minutes gave the Colonels a brief 58-57 lead. After the Gulls immediately retook the lead, the two teams would trade baskets, which saw the game being tied up at 67 with six minutes left in the game. The Colonels led 73-69 with three minutes left, but a 10-2 run by the Gulls gave them a 79-75 lead with 18 seconds left in the game. A Jason Romans three pointer made it a one point game, and after a pair of Endicott free throws, the Colonels had a chance to tie things up with nine second left. But a three pointer by Mustafo Vanjov came up short, and the Gulls took the game 81-78.

The Colonels were led by Jason Romans, as he scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Mustafo Vanjov put in a well-rounded game, making a difference in a number of areas. He scored 15 points, grabbed six rebounds, dished out four assists, had three blocks, and one steal. The other double-digit scorer for the Colonels was Lowelle Torres, as he scored 12 points. He also collected seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
