Men's Basketball Closes Out 2023 With Win Over NEC

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College defeated New England College 89-81 in a non-conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Dr. Eleanor Meyerhoff Katz Gymnasium.

With the win, the Colonels improve to an overall record of 6-4 while remaining 0-3 in Commonwealth Coast Conference play.

Curry jumped out to a hot start, taking a 21-6 lead through the first seven minutes of play, accentuated by a three-pointer by sophomore James Scali (Newburyport, Mass.), who came off the bench to lead the Colonels with 11 points in the first half while knocking down three threes.

The Curry domination continued into the second as Scali knocked down two more threes in the half to finish with a team-high 19 points on 5-for-7 shooting from behind the arc. Sophomore Carl Monplaisir (Vero Beach, Fla.) had a breakout performance, going 5-for-7 from the field for 12 points in only 15 minutes of play.

Sophomore Tommy Mallinson (Wilmington, Mass.) and senior Nick Johnson (Athens, Ga.) finished with 12 points each, combining for seven three-pointers. Johnson also had a team-high seven assists, accumulating six rebounds, two blocks, and two steals. Sophomore Jason Romans (Peabody, Mass.) was a rebound away from a double-double, finishing with 10 points, nine rebounds, and six assists.

Curry College returns to action in 2024 with a conference matchup at home against Suffolk University beginning at 7:30 p.m.
