Men’s Basketball Soars Past Salve Regina

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College men's basketball hit a game-winning three-pointer to defeat Salve Regina 58-57 Saturday afternoon in the Autism Acceptance Classic at Dr. Eleanor Meyerhoff Katz Gymnasium.

After trailing for the entirety of the contest, the Colonels tied the game up at 55-55 with just 47 seconds remaining in regulation. Salve Regina then knocked down a pair of free throws to take a two-point lead. With only 3.1 seconds remaining in the game, senior Lowelle Torres (Vineland, N.J.) received a pass from sophomore Jason Romans (Peabody, Mass.) and knocked down a contested three-pointer to give Curry its only lead of the night and send the Colonels to their fourth straight victory.

With the win, the Colonels remain undefeated on the young season, improving to an overall record of 4-0.

Curry started off slow, falling behind by a score of 18-3 halfway through the first. Sophomores Tommy Mallinson (Wilmington, Mass.) and James Scali (Newburyport, Mass.) both knocked down two three-pointers in the half to kickstart the Colonel offense. Along with seven points from Romans, the Colonels managed to cut the Seahawk lead to four points (29-25) by the start of halftime.

Torres led Curry with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Romans added 13 points, five rebounds, and three steals. Scali scored nine points coming off the bench, going 3-for-4 from behind the arc. Shawn Charles (Vero Beach, Fla.) contributed eight points, seven rebounds, and two blocks.

Curry College returns to action on Tuesday, November 21, in a road matchup against UMass Boston at 7 p.m.
