Men's Basketball Opens Season with Comeback Win over Lesley

MEDFORD, Mass. - Curry College completed a comeback to defeat Lesley University 63-58 in non-conference men's basketball action at Medford High School.

With the win, the Colonels pick up their first victory of the year, improving to 1-0 on the young season.

The Colonels quickly jumped out to a nine-point lead with a three-pointer and a layup by Tommy Mallinson (Wilmington, Mass.) giving Curry an 18-9 advantage halfway through the first half. A three-pointer by James Scali (Newburyport, Mass.), a dunk by Shawn Charles (Vero Beach, Fla.), and an And-1 by Jason Romas (Peabody, Mass.) gave the Colonels a 13-point advantage (36-23), its largest lead of the night.

After the Lynx battled back to establish a seven-point lead over Curry (53-46) with seven minutes remaining in the second half, the Colonels fought their way back into the game, retaking a 59-58 lead off a dunk by Charles. From there, Romans knocked down four free throws to secure victory for the Colonels.

Romans earned a double-double, leading all players with 22 points while grabbing 11 rebounds. Mallinson and Charles both finished with 12 points while Charles recorded a game-high 12 rebounds to earn the double-double.

Curry College returns to action on Tuesday (11/14) in a road matchup against Elms College beginning at 7 p.m.
