Men's Basketball Clipped by Suffolk

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College men's basketball team suffered a narrow 61-57 defeat at the hands of Suffolk University Tuesday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at the Dr. Eleanor Meyerhoff Katz Gymnasium.

With the defeat, the Colonels move to 4-18 overall on the season and 2-13 in the CCC.

Curry jumped out into the lead in the early going, and led by as many as six in the opening 20 minutes. With just under seven minutes to play in the half, a Lowelle Torres (Vineland, N.J.) layup put the Colonels ahead 24-18, but also kicked off a long scoring drought that saw the Rams jump in front for good. By the time the halftime horn sounded, the Colonels trailed 29-24.

The Rams led by as many as 10 points in the second half, but the Colonels continued to battle. On multiple occasions in the waning minutes, Curry got the game to within a single possession, but Suffolk hit all of its free throws down the stretch to keep the Colonels from tying the score, and the game ended with a final score of 61-57.

Torres finished as Curry's leading scorer in the defeat, posting 20 points to go along with eight rebounds and four assists. Right behind Torres was senior Angelo Sardegna (Tampa, Fla.) with 19 points.

Next up for the Colonels, they will travel to Endicott College on Saturday afternoon for a 3 p.m. tip-off.
