Men’s Basketball Downed by Suffolk University

BOSTON, Mass. - Curry College Men's Basketball fell to Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Suffolk University Saturday afternoon by a final score of 90-66.

With the loss, the Colonels fall to 3-10 overall this season and 1-5 in the CCC.

The first half of the conference matchup saw two evenly matched sides through the opening six minutes of the matchup. A three-pointer from Curry freshman forward Mustafo Vanjov (Khorog, Tajikistan) brought the Colonels within three points of the Suffolk lead (12-15). Three successful shots from the field by Lowelle Torres (Vineland, NJ) and a three-pointer by Tommy Mallinson (Wilmington, Mass.) kept the Colonels in the action, with Suffolk leading 27-23. A 15-6 scoring run by the hosting Rams sent the contest into halftime with Suffolk leading 42-29. 

The second half began in favor of the hosting Rams, outscoring the Colonels 23-7 through the opening 6:22. A Shawn Charles (Miami, Fla.) dunk and seven consecutive points from Jason Romans (Peabody, Mass.) put the Colonels back into the action. The hosting Rams would hold the Colonels back from closing in on their lead, closing out the Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup with a final score of 90-66.

The Colonels were led by Jason Romans (18 points, 2 assists), Angelo Sardegna (13 points, 5 rebounds), Lowelle Torres (13 points, 2 assists).

The Colonels return to the court Tuesday, January 10th as they host Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Gordon College at 7 PM.
