Men’s Basketball Bested by Beacons

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College Men's Basketball fell to non-conference opponent UMass Boston in Katz Gymnasium Thursday evening by a final score of 66-50.

With the loss, the Colonels fall to 1-8 overall this season.

The opening half at Katz Gymnasium saw the two sides evenly matched through seven minutes. The visiting Beacons would then surge forth on a 17-6 scoring run in the following ten minutes to take a 29-15 lead. Shots from the field by Curry's Jonathan Joel (Cranston, R.I.) and Lowelle Torres (Vineland, N.J.) brought the Colonels within ten of the visitors with under three minutes remaining in the half. 

The second half saw the Colonels gain momentum, keeping pace with the Beacons. UMass Boston would still be able to contain the Colonels, outscoring the Curry 35-31 in the second half, sealing the win at Katz Gymnasium by a final score of 66-50. The Colonels notched 32.3% (10-31) from the field in the second half while the visiting Beacons marked 37.1% (13-35). 

The visiting UMass Boston Beacons were led by Malik Lorquet who marked 25 points and 13 rebounds in the win on the road. 

The Colonels were led by junior guard Frankie Santiago Jr. (New Britain, Conn.) (16 points, 4 assists, 5 rebounds), Angelo Sardegna (Tampa, Fla.) (8 points, 5 rebounds), and Nick Johnson (Athens, Ga.) (8 points, 4 rebounds).

The Colonels return to the court Friday, December 30th as they host non-conference opponent Bard College at 5 PM.
