Men's Basketball Falls to Wentworth

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College men's basketball team suffered an 83-74 defeat to the Wentworth Institute of Technology Wednesday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at the Dr. Eleanor Meyerhoff Katz Gymnasium.

With the loss, Curry falls to 2-22 overall and 1-16 in the CCC.

The teams battled back and forth in an opening half that featured four ties and eight lead changes. When the horn sounded to signal halftime, nothing had been settled with the teams tied at 38. Sophomore Lowelle Torres (Vineland, N.J.) led Curry in the opening 20 minutes with nine points, while guards Jonathan Joel (Cranston, R.I.) and JayQuan Leonard (Plymouth, Mass.) were close behind with eight each.

Wentworth used a 21-9 run in the opening eight and a half minutes of the second half to take control of the contest. Curry was able to cut the deficit back down to as few as five on a Torres triple with 2:17 to play, but could get no closer as the Leopards sealed the victory.

Torres finished with a game-high 23 points, while junior Angelo Sardegna (Tampa, Fla.) notched 15 points and a team-high six boards. Joel reached double figures with 10 points.

Next up for Curry, they will close out the regular season with Senior Day on Saturday against Nichols College. Tip-off from Katz Gymnasium is slated for 3 p.m.
