Colonels Halted by Seahawks in CCC Action

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Curry College Men's Basketball team was defeated by Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent Salve Regina Tuesday evening by a score of 49-89. This marks the Colonel's seventh loss on the season.

With the loss, Curry falls to 1-7 overall on the season and 1-2 in the CCC. With the win at home, Salve Regina improves to 6-3 on the season and 2-1 in the conference.

The first half saw a comfortable lead attained by the hosts. Salve started the contest on a 13-4 run through the first six minutes. Curry guard Todd Robinson (Brockton, Mass.) brought his side back into the action with a layup. Two free throws from Sante Smith (Norfolk, Va.) and a three from Angelo Sardegna (Tampa, Fla.) brought the Colonels closer to closing the deficit. The hosting Seahawks were not phased by the Colonel's efforts, pulling away and creating a 20-point lead by the conclusion of the first half.

Salve Regina took no time off extending their lead in the second half. The Seahawks would see as much as a 42 point lead late in the half. The hosts were shooting just under 67% from the field in the second half compared to Curry's 32%. The Seahawks also managed 25 boards compared to the Colonel's eight in the half.

The Colonels were led by Frankie Santiago (New Britain, Conn.) who marked 12 points and 7 rebounds in the loss on the road.

Salve saw three players tally double-digits in the points column. Mikey Spencer recorded 24 points as Clay Brochu came off the bench to drop 12 points. Seahawks forward Cameron Collins marked a double-double with 23 points and 17 rebounds in the win at home.

The Curry College Men's Basketball team gets back out on the court Thursday as they host Lesley University for some non-conference action. Tip-off is slated for 6 PM.
