Jones surpassed the 1,000 career-point milestone at Curry in just over two seasons.
Jones and junior forward A.J. Stephens (Stamford, Conn.) were both named to the All-Tournament Team.
Jones led Curry, pouring in a game-high 41 points on 14-for-26 shooting, while Stephens went 6-for-9 with 16 points. Lambros Papalambros ’14 rounded out the trio of Colonels in double-figures with 13.
Getting off to a fast start, the Jeffs quickly built an 11-1 lead on the first of three Toomey triples. Curry responded with a 13-2 run of its own, taking a 14-13 edge on a Ted Amendola ’13 layup. Still down one after a Stephens basket at 12:23, Amherst netted eight unanswered points, going up seven on Killian three-pointer.
With Curry pulling right back within two at 34-32 with 6:23 to go in the first, the Jeffs quickly wrestled control, outscoring the Colonels 28-10 for the remainder of the half to carry a 20-point lead into the intermission. Workman accounted for seven points during the decisive run, while Killian knocked down a pair of threes.
Staying aggressive to start the second, the Jeffs pushed the lead to 83-58 over the first 5:54 of the frame. Still trailing by 23 after a Connor Green ’16 layup with 11:13 to go, Curry made a 12-4 run to pull within 15 after a Jones bucket from long range.
Trying to keep the Colonels in it, Jones netted his team’s next 11 points, but Amherst kept the pressure on, outscoring Curry 22-13 during a 5:57 stretch late in the second half to go up 24 with just under two and a half minutes remaining.
