MBB Dominates Newbury 92-79 For 2nd Win in a Row

BROOKLINE, Mass. - The Curry College men’s basketball team dominated host Newbury College, 92-79.  The Colonels were paced by forward A.J. Stephens (Stamford, CT/Westhill) who finished with 10 rebounds and 22 points on 7 for 10 shooting from the floor and 8-10 from the free throw line. 

In the first half, the Colonels showed off their offensive skills, shooting a red hot 60% from the floor and 100% from the free throw line.  Curry was led by Mark Mastrullo (Billerica, MA/Billerica) in the first half with 12 points, three rebounds and two assists, while six of his teammates would also score three or more points.   The Nighthawks John Rowley (Hartford, CT/Rockville) single handedly kept the game from getting out of hand, scoring 15 of his 28 points in the half.

Returning from the locker room, the Colonels kept pace with their offensive first half and finished the game shooting an impressive 57% from the floor and 80% from the free throw line.  Following Stephens lead, center Chris Bonadies (Medfield, MA/Medfield) turned in the only other double-double in the game with 11 rebounds and 13 points.  Teammates Mastrullo and Michael D’Amato (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow) would finish with 19 and 16 points respectfully. 

Despite the loss, the Nighthawk’s first year stand out Timothy Young (Brockton, MA/Brockton) continued to pour in the points leading all scorers with 29, 21 of them in the second half. 

With the loss, Newbury falls to 1-5 on the season while Curry improves to 2-6.
