MBB Holds Off Regis, 72-66, to Remain Unbeaten in TCCC Play
MILTON, Mass. – Curry College built a 12-point halftime lead, then held off visiting Regis College to record a 72-66 win in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) men’s basketball action Saturday in Milton. The Colonels improve to 6-7 overall and 3-0 in TCCC play while the Pride falls to 6-8 overall and 2-1 in TCCC play.

Curry never trailed and had its biggest lead (22-6) at 7:58 of the first half after junior guard Michael D'Amato (Redding, CT) made a layup, got fouled, and added a free throw shot. At the end of the first half, Curry held a 31-19 edge.

Regis came back to tie the game at 44-44 with 11:47 left in regulation after a layup by sophomore guard Ta’Keame Gomes (Cambridge, MA). The Pride pulled within two (60-58) with 3:41 to go after a layup by senior forward Jesse Vega (Pawtucket, RI). The Colonels replied with a three-pointer by sophomore guard Jarrell Jackson (Brockton, MA) with 3:09 left in the game putting them up 63-58. Curry maintained their lead to win the game 72-66.

Senior guard Mark Mastrullo (Billerica, MA) led the Colonels in scoring with a game-high 22 points. Junior guard Michael Worrick (North Grafton, MA) chipped in 14 points. Jackson was the only other Colonel in double figures with 12. Worrick also led Curry in rebounding with a game-high nine boards.

Regis was led by Gomes with a team-high 16 points. Vega and junior guard Derrick Neal (Boston, MA) each contributed 13 points. Senior guard James Cooper (Philadelphia, PA) also reached double figures with 12. Cooper was the Pride’s top rebounder with eight.

Curry returns to action on January 19, hosting Colby-Sawyer at 8:00 p.m. Regis next travels to New England College on January 20 for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
