Football Blanked by Salve Regina in Season Opener

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College football team dropped a 48-0 decision to Salve Regina University in non-conference action Friday evening at Walter M. Katz Field.

With the defeat, Curry drops to 0-1 overall on the season.

Before the start of the contest, new Curry College President Jay Gonzalez joined both teams' captains at midfield for the opening coin toss.

The Colonels appeared to take the lead right off the bat, as freshman Colin Ridley (Peabody, Mass.) returned the opening kickoff all the way to the end zone, but the play was called back as Ridley stepped out of bounds on the Curry 39-yard line.

After the score was taken off the board, Salve outscored Curry 21-0 in the first quarter and 14-0 in the second to take a commanding 35-0 lead into the break.

Coming out of the break, the Seahawks posted 13 more points in the third to give the game its final score of 48-0.

Curry was paced offensively by reigning Commonwealth Coast Conference Offensive Rookie of the Year Montie Quinn (Goose Creek, S.C.). The sophomore rushed 16 times for 89 yards, while also catching a pair of passes for 24 yards.

Defensively, senior Michael Sims (Baltic, Conn.) led all players with 14 tackles (six solo) in the defeat. Junior Adem Kica (Oxford, Conn.) and freshmen Jolil Walker (Baltimore, Md.) and Alan Paulino (Peabody, Mass.) all snagged their first collegiate interceptions on the evening as well.

Next up for the Colonels, they will play their first road game of the season on Saturday, September 9 with a road trip to UMass Dartmouth. Kick off is slated for 5 p.m.
