Football Falls Short to Husson in Homecoming Game

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College football team suffered a 38-26 defeat to Husson University in its Homecoming contest on Saturday afternoon at Walter M. Katz Field.

With the defeat, Curry falls to 3-4 overall on the season and 1-2 in Commonwealth Coast Conference action.

Husson got on the board early with a touchdown on their opening drive to go ahead 7-0. The touchdown nearly held up as the only score of the opening quarter, but with the Eagles pinned in deep in the final minute, Tahg Coakley (Danvers, Mass.) and Michael Sims (Baltic, Conn.) got to the Husson running back before he could get out of his own end zone for a safety.

A 49-yard touchdown run from Curry freshman running back Montie Quinn (Goose Creek, S.C.) just 1:04 into the second quarter put the Colonels on top by a score of 9-7. The advantage would only last for 90 seconds however, as Husson connected on a 40-yard touchdown pass to push the score to 14-9 with 12:26 to play in the second quarter.

A 20-yard Billy Lynch (Mansfield, Mass.) field goal as time expired in the first half sent the teams to the break with a score of 14-12.

Husson scored the only 10 points of the third quarter to take a 24-12 lead to the fourth, but Curry made things interesting when graduate quarterback Justin Mullaney (Danvers, Mass.) connected with sophomore Devon Hughes (Mashpee, Mass.) from 15 yards out to cut the deficit to 24-19 just 31 seconds in to the final quarter.

Curry could get no closer however, as the Eagles responded with a pair of touchdowns to go up 38-19. A five-yard touchdown reception from senior Maxx Bell (Auburn, Maine) in the final minute moved the score to 38-26, but Husson recovered Lynch's onside kick to secure the Eagle victory.

Mullaney finished the day throwing 26-for-41 for 212 yards with a pair of touchdowns, while Quinn rushed the ball 19 times for 107 yards and one touchdown.

Coakley had a huge day for the Colonels on the defensive side of the ball, leading the team with 16 tackles, an interception, a safety, and a pass breakup. Freshman defensive lineman Pete Jurovich (Winthrop, Mass.) also finished the day with an interception, the first of his collegiate career, to go along with three tackles.

Next up for the Colonels, they will head back on the road to face Western New England University next Saturday afternoon. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m.
