SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The major award winners and all-conference teams for the inaugural season of CCC Football were announced on Tuesday afternoon and the Curry College football team was well represented. Senior quarterback Alex Corvese (Cranston, R.I.) was named the Co-Offensive Player of the Year and First Team Offense Honors. Joining Corvese in the major award winner category is Sean Amaru (Westwood, Mass.) as the Offensive Rookie of the Year and was named to the First Team Offense. Closing out the major award winners was Head Coach Skip Bandini, who was honored as the CCC Football Football Coach of the Year. Bandini engineered a five-win improvement from a year ago as the team improved significantly in all phases of the game. In addition to Corvese and Amaru, the Colonels had eight other teammates join them on the all-conference teams.

Corvese was named the Co-Offensive Player of the Year after he led the conference in multiple categories. He led the league in passing yards per game (224.4), tied for first in passing touchdowns (22). The quarterback also led the league in passing yards (2244), completion percentage (65.8%) and ranked second in efficiency with a 147.1 rating. On the ground, Corvese averaged 51.6 yards per game to rank fifth in the league. He also led the conference with 11 rushing touchdowns. Corvese was named the CCC Football Offensive Player of the Week five times this season and was honored twice as the ECAC Division III North Offensive Player of the Week.  

Amaru is this season's Offensive Rookie of the Year after the junior first-year player led the league in rushing yards per game with 78.1. He was also tied for fourth in rushing touchdowns with six. Amaru was honored as the CCC Football Offensive Rookie of the Week three times during the season.

Joining Corvese and Amaru on the First Team Offense is wide receiver Spencer Tyler (Yarmouthport, Mass.). Tyler tallied 617 yards on 58 receptions and added two touchdowns.

The Second Team Offense featured two Colonels: sophomore wideout Nick Villanueva (Hanson, Mass.) and sophomore guard Chris Girouard (Arlington, Mass.). Villanueva had a breakout sophomore campaign, recording 39 receptions for 622 yards and a league-leading 10 receiving touchdowns. Girouard earns a spot as an all-conference guard as the sophomore helped anchor the offensive line.

On the other side of the ball, senior defensive lineman Joe Surace (West Islip, N.Y.) and senior linebacker Steven Grogan (Forestdale, Mass.) were named to the First Team Defense. Surace registered 48 total tackles, including a league-leading 7.5 sacks. Grogan was another leader on that the defensive side of the ball, tallying a team-leading 61 tackles (33 solo, 28 assisted) which was tied for tenth in the league. He registered 4.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and forced one fumble. Grogan was named the CCC Defensive Player of the Week Once this season (Oct. 22)

The Second Team Defense had two Curry student-athletes represented in defensive back Joseph Patti (Woburn, Mass.) and defensive lineman Joseph Grogan (Forestdale, Mass.). Patti recorded 48 tackles (32 solo, 16 assisted), which was tied for second on the team. He also had 1.5 tackles for loss and registered two interceptions. Grogan played in all 10 games and recorded 45 total tackles (30 solo, 15 assisted). Additionally, he had 11.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, and three forced fumbles in the regular season. Grogan was named the CCC Football Defensive Player of the Week once this season (Oct. 8).

Marc Mrozek (Stratford, Conn.) rounds out the Curry all-conference selections with his First Team Special Teams selection. Mrozek accounted for a league-leading 49 points in the kicking category. He converted 31-of-37 extra point opportunities (84%) and went 6-for-9 on field goal tries during the regular season. Mrozek was named the CCC Football Special Teams Player of the Week four times and was the ECAC Division III North Special Teams Player of the Week once (Oct. 10).

Curry (8-2, 4-1 CCC Football) has qualified for postseason play and will travel to Framingham State to take on the Rams in the second annual New England Bowl on Saturday, November 18 at noon.
