CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Yale quarterback Morgan Roberts and Curry linebacker Devin Williams have been awarded New England Football Writers' Association Gold Helmets after strong performances November 15.
Roberts becomes the first student-athlete to win multiple Gold Helmets this year, as he earned his first September 24. In a 44-30 victory over Princeton, the junior from Charlotte, North Carolina, led the way with 405 passing yards, going 27 for 42 with two touchdowns. After the Tigers got on the board first, Roberts led the Bulldogs down the field and connected with Robert Clemons from seven yards out for his first score of the game. He later hooked up with Tyler Varga for a 13-yard score to put the game out of reach. The win pushed Yale to 8-1 overall, and are a win away from sharing the Ivy League title with Harvard.
Williams made plays all over the field for Curry, which won its third-consecutive game to end the season. A freshman from Gardner, Massachusetts, Williams led all players with 15 tackles in a 28-23 victory over Maine Maritime. Leading by seven with 90 seconds remaining in the game, Williams picked off the Mariners' quarterback at his own two-yard line to seal the victory. The linebacker also recovered a fumble and combined with teammate Parrish Rogers-Reed on a three-yard sack. Williams was named the NEFC and ECAC Division III Northeast Defensive Player of the Week for his strong performance.
