Baseball Concludes Florida Trip With Doubleheader Loss to St. Norbert

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - Curry College baseball concluded play in Florida by losing a non-conference collegiate doubleheader against St. Norbert on Thursday afternoon at Lake Myrtle Park.

With the loss, the Colonels fall to an overall record of 3-7 and conclude Spring Break competition with a record of 2-7 in Florida.

GAME ONE: St. Norbert 15, Curry 10

The Colonels' bats came alive in the bottom of the third inning, starting with back-to-back singles by Nick Columbano (Commack, N.Y.) and Drew Fagala (San Antonio, Texas). Cam Barry (Manchester, Conn.) smacked another single up the middle of the field to score both runners and put Curry on the board. Reegan Thomas (Standish, Maine) drove in another run later in the inning thanks to an error by the second baseman.

Devin Grove (Cheshire, Conn.) started things in the fourth with a double that soared over the left fielder's head. He advanced to third on a single by Columbano and scored when Fagala singled to right field, cutting the Green Knights' lead to four (8-4)

Thomas hit a double down the left field line to start the bottom of the fifth and was driven in by an RBI single from Tito Gagliardi (Cromwell, Conn.) on the ensuing at-bat. With one out and runners at first and third, Kyle Doolin (Stoughton, Mass.) singled to right field to score the sixth Colonel run. Curry wasn't done yet, picking up another run on a throwing error by the catcher to cut the St. Norbert lead to two (9-7).

Curry hit three straight singles to load the bases in the bottom of the sixth inning, setting up Aidan Finnegan (Amsterdam, Netherlands) for an RBI walk and Erik Leonard (Dedham, Mass.), who singled to left field to score another run. Doolin drove in a third run on a fielder's choice to second base

GAME TWO: St, Norbert 5, Curry 4

Curry jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the top of the second inning when Fagala singled up the middle of the infield to score the Colonels' first run. Later in the inning with runners in scoring position, Barry doubled to left field to give Curry the lead.

Fagala led off the top of the fourth with a single and stole second later in the inning. He reached third on a sacrifice bunt by Barry and was driven in by Thomas who grounded out to the second baseman. The run extended the Curry lead to 3-1.

The Colonels tacked on more runs in the top of the fifth starting with a single by Leonard. Brett Heggs (Taunton, Mass.) pinch-ran for Leonard and advanced to second on a single by Doolin. Finnegan roped a single to left field that allowed Heggs enough time to score from second and extend Curry's lead to 4-1.

Today's doubleheader concludes competition in Florida for Curry College with the Colonels having a brief rest over the weekend before returning to action in a home game against Eastern Nazarene on Monday, March 18th, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
