Baseball Falls Short Against St. Scholastica

DAVENPORT, Fla. - Curry College was swept by the College of St. Scholastica in a non-conference collegiate baseball doubleheader Wednesday morning at Northeast Regional Park.

With the losses, the Colonels fall to an overall record of 3-5 on the season and 2-4 during Spring Break competition in Flordia.

GAME ONE: St. Scholastica 10, Curry 1

The Colonels had their chances early on, leaving runners in scoring position in both of the first two innings.

The bottom of the sixth was a bright spot for the Colonels, starting with a single up the middle of the field by Aidan Finnegan (Amsterdam, Netherlands). On the ensuing at-bat, Tommy Marshall (Hanson, Mass.) smashed a double to left-center field, which allowed Finnegan to score the lone Curry run of the game.

GAME TWO: St. Scholastica 7, Curry 2

Cam Barry (Manchester, Conn.) opened up the bottom of the third with a leadoff single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kyle Doolin (Stoughton, Mass.). Later in the inning, Erik Leonard (Dedham, Mass.) slapped a double down the right-field line to put the Colonels on the board.

Back-to-back singles by Leonard and Brett Heggs (Taunton, Mass.) put runners at first and third for Tim Porter (Hanover, Mass.), who grounded out to third to drive in Curry's second run in the top of the sixth.

Brandon Prescod (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was effective in relief for the Colonels, allowing zero earned runs after taking over midway through the third inning.

Curry College concludes competition in Florida on Thursday, March 14th, with a doubleheader against St. Norbert beginning
