Baseball Falls to Rutgers-Newark

DAVENPORT, Fla. - Curry College was defeated 23-9 by Rutgers-Newark in a non-conference collegiate baseball game Sunday afternoon at Northeast Regional Park Field.

With the loss, the Colonels fall to an overall record of 3-1 with a 2-1 record on their nine-game Florida road trip.

Curry College fired out to a hot start in the top of the first inning when Tino Gagliardi (Cromwell, Conn.) doubled to drive in a run, followed by a single to center field by Erik Leonard (Dedham, Mass.) to score two and give the Colonels a 3-0 lead.

Tommy Marshall (Hanson, Mass.) added another run for the Colonels in the top of the second. Marshall went 3-for-4 on the day while scoring twice. In the following inning, Cam Barry (Manchester, Conn.) hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the Colonel's fifth run of the game.

After accruing a large deficit, Curry attempted to come back, scoring twice in the sixth inning off RBI singles by Aidan Finnegan (Amsterdam, Netherlands) and Anderson Hart (Norwell, Mass.). Finnegan added another RBI single in the 7th to cap off scoring for the Colonels.

Curry College continues competition in Florida on Monday, March 11th, with a doubleheader against Lakeland beginning at 9:30 a.m.
