Baseball Clubs Lions on Opening Day

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. - The Colonels defeated Emerson College 14-11 on Opening Day of the 2024 Curry College baseball season at New England Baseball Complex on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Colonels start the season with a 1-0 record. Curry heads to Florida over spring break for a nine-game road trip before returning home to take on Eastern Nazarene on March 18th.

Junior Erik Leonard (Dedham, Mass.) singled to centerfield to drive in the first run of the season. On the next at-bat, junior Tommy Marshall (Hanson, Mass.) hit another RBI single to score another run and give the Colonels a 2-0 lead. Junior Kyle Doolin (Stoughton, Mass.) added a third run in the top of the third inning off a sacrifice fly to center field.

The Curry offense exploded in the fourth and fifth, posting back-to-back five-run innings, including an RBI single by Marshall and a two-run home run by Aidan Finnegan (Amsterdam, Netherlands) in the fourth. Finnegan drove in another run with a single in the fifth while Doolin drove in a pair with an RBI single to right field. By the end of the fifth inning, Curry maintained a 13-4 lead over the Lions.

Marshall led the Curry offense, going 3-for-5 with a double, three RBIs, and a walk while scoring three times. Sophomore Reegan Thomas (Standish, Maine) also had an efficient day, going 3-for-5 from the batter's box, including a double. Finnegan and Doolin were another major part of the Colonels offense, with both of the pair driving in three runs.

Curry College returns to action on Saturday, March 9th, against Martin Luther at Lake Myrtle Park Field #7 in Auburndale, Fla.
