Baseball Swept by Brandeis

WALTHAM, Mass. - The Curry College baseball team was swept by Brandeis University in a non-conference doubleheader on the road Saturday afternoon.

With the losses, Curry moves to 10-24 overall.

 

Game 1 - Curry 5, Brandeis 6 (8 Innings)

The hosting judges notched four runs in the opening three innings to take a 4-0 lead over the visiting Colonels. 

Curry notched its first run on the board in the top of the fourth, freshman Devin Grove (Cheshire, Conn.) batting an RBI single through the left side to score George Calderon (New York, N.Y.). The next at-bat saw a Brandon Polanco (Brownsville, N.Y.) RBI single down the right field line to bring Conor Hanlon in to score, chipping away at the hosting Judges' lead. 

Curry's Julian Jaume (Staten Island, N.Y.) batted in the third run of the fourth inning for the Colonels on a shot up the middle to drive Devin Grove in to score, now trailing 4-3.

The bottom of the fourth saw one additional score from the hosts, Brandeis now leading 5-3.

In the top of the sixth, Curry's Ryan Goonan (Raynham, Mass.) notched an RBI double to right-center to bring the Colonels within one run of the hosts. The following at-bat saw a Julian Jaume groundout that allowed Devin Groce to score, tying the contest at 5-5, and forcing extra innings in the non-conference matchup.

A Brandeis bunt in the bottom of the eighth inning drove in Sean Decker-Jacoby, closing out the first matchup of the day in favor of the Judges, 6-5.

 

Game 2 - Curry 2, Brandeis 7

Curry's Julian Jaume kept his bat warm in the second matchup of the afternoon, batting in Ryan Goonan for the opening score on a single up the middle in the top of the first. 

The hosting Judges would gain a 4-1 lead over the Colonels through the bottom of the third inning on three hits.

Graduate second baseman Julian Jaume scored the second Curry run of the matchup on a Tommy Marshall (Hanson, Mass.) groundout to chip away at Brandeis' lead. 

With three additional unanswered runs from the hosts, Curry would fall to Brandeis 7-2 in the second matchup of the non-conference doubleheader. 

Curry will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon, hosting conference opponent Salve Regina at 3 PM.
