Colonels Hold Back Hawks

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College baseball team bested Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Roger Williams University 9-3 at home Tuesday afternoon.

With the win, Curry moves to 10-20 overall and 4-9 in the CCC.

The visiting Roger Williams Hawks jumped to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, notching two runs on three hits.

The Colonels closed in on the Hawks' lead in the bottom of the second, Ryan Goonan (Raynham, Mass.) tallying an RBI single to right field to send Devin Grove (Cheshire, Conn.) in to score.

A Chris Faraca (Peabody, Mass.) single to right center in the bottom of the fifth would drive junior George Calderon (New York, N.Y.) in to score, tying the contest at 2-2.

Curry's Tommy Marshall (Hanson, Mass.) would send a shot down the left field line to send senior third baseman James Jackson (Seekonk, Mass.) into home, pushing the Colonels to a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth. The next at-bat saw George Calderon bat in Julian Jaume (Staten Island, N.Y.) on a single to shortstop, grabbing the Colonels a 4-2 lead. RBI singles from Chris Faraca and Devin Grove would close out the Colonels' four-hit, four-run inning to take a 6-2 lead over the visiting Hawks.

Curry took a seven-run lead in the bottom of the seventh on a Tommy Marshall three-run home run to right field, his second home run of the season.

The visiting Hawks would be unable to catch the Colonels' lead, notching just one additional run, sealing the 9-3 victory for Curry on Jack Vallely Diamond Tuesday afternoon.

Curry will be back in action Wednesday afternoon, as they host Lesley University on Jack Vallely Diamond at 3 PM.
