Colonels Sweep Leopards

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College baseball team swept Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Wentworth in an afternoon doubleheader on Jack Vallely Diamond.

With the wins, Curry moves to 7-11 overall and 3-1 in the CCC.

 

Game 1 - Curry 2, Wentworth 1

The opening matchup of the Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader on Jack Vallely Diamond saw the Colonels notch two runs in the bottom of the first while holding the visiting Leopards to just one run, sealing the CCC victory at home. 

Curry's Brandon Polanco (Brownsville, N.Y.) tallied a double to left center, pushing Drew Fagala (San Antonio, Texas) to score for the Colonels' first run of the day. 

Junior shortstop Ryan Goonan (Raynham, Mass.) batted in the second Colonels run of the matchup to push Curry to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. 

Curry's Jack Needham (Raynham, Mass.) was credited with the win having pitched seven innings with eight strikeouts and just one earned run.

 

Game 2 - Curry 3, Wentworth 1

The visiting Leopards struck first in the second matchup on Vallely Diamond, Nick Cullinan singling to left-center to grant Wentworth a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning.

A sacrifice fly to left field from freshman Chris Faraca (Peabody, Mass.) would drive Drew Fagala in to score for Curry's first run in the second matchup of the day, tying the contest at 1-1. An error by Wentworth's shortstop would allow James Jackson (Seekonk, Mass.) to score, granting the Colonels a 2-1 lead. 

Curry graduate outfielder Jhonathan Oliveira (Peabody, Mass.) notched a sacrifice fly to left field in the bottom of the seventh, tallying the third Colonel run of the matchup and sealing victory on Vallely Diamond in the second matchup of the day. 

Colonels sophomore pitcher Conor Quinlan (Taunton, Mass.) had a remarkable shift on the mound, pitching all nine innings while marking seven strikeouts with just one earned run.

Curry will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon, traveling to face conference opponent Roger Williams at 3:30 PM.
