Colonels Split With Fighting Scots

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College baseball team split its first conference doubleheader on Jack Vallely Diamond against Gordon College Sunday afternoon.

With the split, Curry moves to 4-10 overall and 1-1 in the CCC.

 

Game 1 - Curry 1, Gordon 11

The visiting Fighting Scots were dominant in the opening matchup in Milton, Mass., notching six unanswered runs through the first three innings on Vallely Diamond. 

Curry's sole run came in the bottom of the third on a Jhonathan Oliveira (Peabody, Mass.) single to left field, driving George Calderon (New York, N.Y.) in to score for the Colonels. 

Five additional runs from the Fighting Scots through the top of the eighth solidified the win for Gordon College in the first matchup of the afternoon. 

 

Game 2 - Curry 9, Gordon 5

The Fighting Scots tallied runs quickly in the second matchup of the day, Andrew Hartman notching a two-run home run to right field in the top of the first inning.

The Colonels tied the Fighting Scots' lead in the bottom of the third on a Ryan Goonan (Raynham, Mass.) double to center field, bringing Chris Faraca (Peabody, Mass.) to score. 

Gordon College regained a two-run lead in the top of the fifth on a Robert Dunkle two-RBI double to right field.

Curry's Drew Fagala (San Antonio, Texas) brought the Colonels back into the action in the bottom of the fifth with a two-RBI double to right field, pushing Chris Faraca and Justin Schloss to score, tying the contest again. Two at-bats later, Curry's Connor Hanlon (Beverly, Mass.) granted the Colonels a one-run lead on an RBI single to center field. The Curry scoring in the fifth inning would conclude with a Brett Heggs (Taunton, Mass.) double to right center, pushing the Colonels to an 8-4 lead over the visitors.

The bottom of the sixth saw the Colonels tally one additional run. In the leadoff position in the bottom of the sixth, freshman Justin Schloss launched a shot deep over the left field wall to bring the Colonels' lead to 9-4 on Vallely Diamond. 

Gordon College would mark their final run in the top of the ninth, sealing the Curry College victory, 9-5.

Curry will be back in action on Monday afternoon, hosting non-conference opponent Worcester State University on Vallely Diamond at 3 PM.
