Colonels Fall to Rutgers-Newark in Final Game of Spring Trip

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Curry College baseball team fell to non-conference opponent Rutgers-Newark 16-6 at the Lake Myrtle Sports Park Thursday afternoon. 

With the loss, Curry falls to 3-7 overall this season.

Curry College struck first in the morning matchup, Tommy Marshall () batting in Brett Hegs () on a single through the left side to grab the Colonels an early 1-0 lead. A two-run double from Erik Leonard () drove Tommy Marshall and Brandon Polanco () in to score, pushing the Curry lead to 3-0.

Rutgers-Newark would take control in the top of the fourth, scoring 11 runs to take an 11-3 lead over the Colonels. 

The top of the seventh would see five more runs by Rutgers-Newark, sealing their total at 16. 

Curry's Erik Leonard would notch his second two-RBI at-bat in the bottom of the seventh, leading the Colonels with four RBIs on three at-bats in the loss.

Curry continues its season Sunday as they travel to face non-conference opponent Dean College at 1 PM.
