Colonels Charge Past Colby-Sawyer

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Curry College baseball team swept non-conference opponent Colby-Sawyer at the Lake Myrtle Sports Park Thursday afternoon. 


With the wins, Curry improves to 3-6 overall this season.

 


Game 1 - Curry 7, Colby-Sawyer 1


Curry College struck first in the morning matchup, Joan Peralta () batting in Jhonathan Oliveira () on a single to center field to push the Colonels to an early 1-0 lead.

The top of the third saw a Brandon Polanco () triple to right-center in the lead-off spot. Polanco would score on a Tommy Marshall () ground-out to bring the Curry lead to 2-0.

The Colonels kept the bats hot into the seventh inning, Erik Leonard () notching an RBI double down the right-field line.

Curry's final two runs in the first matchup came by way of a Conor Hanlon () single to center-field, bringing in Joan Peralta () and George Calderon (), capping the Colonels' victory at 7-2.

Graduate pitcher Jack Needham () was credited with the win in the first game, tallying five innings pitched with no earned runs, four hits, and seven strikeouts. 

 


Game 2 - Colby-Sawyer 3, Curry 13


The Colonels kept the bats moving into the second matchup of the afternoon doubleheader, notching four runs in the bottom of the first. Joan Peralta, Conor Hanlon, James Jackson, and Ryan Goonan each tallying RBIs.

The opposing Chargers marked a run in the top of the second, closing in on the Curry lead, now trailing 4-2.

The Colonels continued to dominate in the bottom of the third, tallying eight additional runs. Curry's Polanco recorded a two-RBI double to right center, pushing the Colonels' lead to 8-2 as James Jackson notched a two-RBI single down the left-field line bringing the Curry lead to 10 (12-2).

Colby-Sawyer marked one additional run in the top of the fourth, capping their total at four runs.

The bottom of the fifth saw Brett Heggs () notch one final run for the Colonels, closing out the second matchup of the doubleheader 13-3 in favor of Curry.

Curry closes its spring trip Thursday morning as they face Rutgers Newark at 9 AM at the Lake Myrtle Sports Park.
