Colonels Swept by Roadrunners

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Curry College baseball team fell to Ramapo College in both of the games of the afternoon doubleheader at the Lake Myrtle Sports Park. Both matchups fell in favor of the Roadrunners, 9-4 and 11-4.

With the losses, Curry moves to 1-6 overall this season.

 

Game 1 - Curry 4, Ramapo 9

Ramapo notched the first runs of the morning matchup in the bottom of the third, Matt Lalomia marking a two-RBI single.

The Colonels answered back in the top of the first, Julian Jaume (Staten Island, N.Y.) capitalizing on a Joan Peralta (Brownsville, N.Y.) groundout, bringing Curry within one run of the Roadrunners.

Ramapo would go on to tally seven additional runs in the bottom of the fourth, grabbing a 9-1 lead over the Colonels.

Curry's Brett Heggs (Taunton, Mass.) notched the final Colonel run of the matchup, closing out the first of the two games 9-4 in favor of the Ramapo Roadrunners.

 

Game 2 - Ramapo 11, Curry 4

Curry marked the first runs of the second game of the afternoon doubleheader, Joan Peralta singling through the left side to drive Brett Heggs in to score. A walk to cycle the bases brought in Kyle Doolin (Stoughton, Mass.), pushing the Colonel lead to 2-0. 

The top of the fourth saw Ramapo grab a one-run lead, Brian Baranok doubling to left-center, notching two additional runs. 

Curry's George Calderon (New York, N.Y.) singled through the right side, bringing Tino Gagliardi (Cromwell, Conn.) to score, re-tying the matchup at 4-4 in the bottom of the fifth. 

The top of the sixth saw a Christian Alonso grand slam, pulling Ramapo back into the lead, 9-4. 

The Colonels would not be able to catch the Roadrunners' lead in the final inning, falling to Ramapo by a final score of 11-4. 

Curry was paced by Joan Peralta who batted 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a stolen base. 

Curry will be back in action on Wednesday morning, continuing its Florida Spring Break trip with a contest against Colby-Sawyer in Auburndale, Fla. at 9:45 AM & 12:15 PM.
