Colonels Drop 10 Inning Bout to SUNY Canton

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - Curry College Baseball fell to non-conference opponent SUNY Canton Sunday afternoon by a final score of 9-8 in 10 innings at the Lake Myrtle Sports Park. 

With the loss, Curry continues its spring trip with an overall record of 1-4.

The Colonels notched runs on the board quickly at the Lake Myrtle Sports Park as Tommy Marshall (Hanson, Mass.) tallied a single down the right-field line to drive in Brett Heggs (Taunton, Mass.) and Jhonathan Oliveira (Peabody, Mass.) in the top of the first. Curry pushed its lead to 3-0 on an error by SUNY Canton's third baseman, sending Brandon Polanco (Brownsville, N.Y.) in to score. 

An Edilberto Rosado single down the right-field line in the bottom of the first brought two fellow SUNY Canton Kangaroos in to score, tying the contest at three runs a piece. 

The Colonels would push their lead to 7-3 in the top of the sixth on a Jhonathan Oliveira groundout allowing Conor Hanlon (Beverly, Mass.) to score.

SUNY Canton took an 8-7 lead over Curry in the bottom of the sixth on a Nathan Welch home run to right field, notching three RBIs.

Curry's Brandon Polanco would re-tie the matchup in the top of the seventh, scoring on an error by SUNY Canton's second baseman.

The game would conclude on a Hunter LaValley single to center field, bringing in Nick Shoemaker to seal the Kangaroo victory, 9-8.

Curry's Cameron Herndon (Floresville, Texas) (0-1) was credited with the loss, pitching four innings with five strikeouts and allowing two runs. 

The Colonels were paced by Tommy Marshall who marked two RBIs on three hits afternoon matchup. 

Curry College Baseball gets back out on the field Monday as they face Ramapo at 10 AM and 12:30 PM.
