Colonels Fall to Lions in Non-Conference Action

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. - The Curry College Baseball team fell to non-conference opponent Emerson College Friday afternoon by a final score of 10-9.

With the loss, Curry begins its season 0-1 overall.

The visiting Colonels took the lead quickly in the contest, Tommy Marshall (Hanson, Mass.) marking an RBI double to left field to bat in Ryan Goonan (Raynham, Mass.) in the top of the first. A single to right from Brett Heggs (Taunton, Mass.) batted in Marshall, pushing the Colonels to a 2-0 lead early in the matchup.

Five runs in the bottom of the second granted the hosting Lions a 5-2 lead.

Curry's Kyle Doolin (Stoughton, Mass.) notched a two-RBI single in the top of the third to bring the Colonels within one score of the hosts. A Brett Heggs single to left field would bat Doolin in, tying the contest at five runs a piece.

The hosting Emerson Lions notched four additional runs in the bottom of the fifth to grab a 9-5 lead over the Colonels.

Curry College sophomore Brandon Polanco (Brownsville, N.Y.) tallied his first home run of the afternoon in the top of the seventh, clearing the left field fence and batting in Joan Peralta (Brownsville, N.Y.) to close in on Emerson's lead. Two innings later, Polanco would mirror his seventh-inning at-bat, homering to left field to drive in Peralta, tying the matchup at 9-9.

The hosting Lions would claim the victory in Northborough, Mass. on a Chris Farara single up the middle, closing the contest with the final score of 10-9.

The Colonels were paced by Brandon Polanco who marked four RBIs on two home runs in the afternoon matchup.

Curry College Baseball gets back out on the field Tuesday as they travel to face non-conference opponent Mass. Maritime at 4 PM.
