Baseball Rallies Past Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I. - The Curry College baseball team rallied to defeat Roger Williams University 10-7 Tuesday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at Paolino Field.

With the win, Curry improves to 13-21 overall on the season and 3-11 in the CCC. Roger Williams falls to 25-8-1 overall and 9-4-1 in conference play.

Curry opened the scoring in the top of the first inning on a Jared Keller (Oxford, Conn.) sacrifice fly to centerfield, scoring freshman Brett Heggs (Taunton, Mass.) from third base.

Roger Williams scored the contest's next five runs with one in the third and three in the fourth, but Curry refused to go down quietly.

A passed ball that scored Conor Hanlon (Beverly, Mass.) from third opened Curry's rally in the top of the fifth inning, followed by an RBI double from freshman Brandon Polanco (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and a two-run double from senior Eric Sennott (Odessa, Fla.). Garrett Fosher (Exeter, N.H.) capped the five-run frame with an RBI single to right center, putting Curry ahead 6-5.

The Hawks evened the scored at 6-6 in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double, but the stalemate would not last. Senior Jason Leonard (Dedham, Mass.) roped a two-run single, while Sennott recorded his second RBI hit in as many innings to put Curry back ahead by a score of 9-6.

In the top of the eighth, Curry added an insurance run when Sennott notched yet another run-scoring single. Roger Williams scored once in the bottom of the eighth, but could get no closer as Curry closed out the win.

Curry's win was credited to freshman reliever Colman Dyer (Sterling, Mass.), who allowed one earned run in 1.1 innings pitched. Classmate Bobby Marshall (Hanson, Mass.) impressed with a four-inning save, allowing just one earned on four hits with five strikeouts.

Leonard, Polanco, and Sennott each recorded three hits, with Leonard scoring three times and Sennott driving in four runs to pace the Colonels offensively.

The Colonels will return to the diamond on Saturday for a doubleheader against Western New England. First pitch in game one is slated for 11 a.m.
