Baseball Blanked by Salve Regina

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College baseball team was shut out by Salve Regina University 11-0 in seven innings Wednesday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at Jack Vallely Diamond.

With the defeat, Curry falls to 9-15 overall and 2-7 in the CCC.

The game remained scoreless until the top of the third inning, when the visiting Seahawks put up eight runs to take control of the contest. Seven of the eight runs were earned, and came on eight hits, as the Seahawks sent 13 men to the plate.

Salve tacked on two more runs in the top of the fourth and a single run in the top of the seventh to account for all of the offense.

Curry did not have a baserunner offensively until the bottom of the sixth, when senior Julian Jaume (Staten Island, N.Y.) broke up a combined perfect game with a base hit up the middle. The Colonels would load the bases after a Brett Heggs (Taunton, Mass.) single and Ryan Goonan (Raynham, Mass.) hit by pitch, but were unable to capitalize on the threat.

The loss went to graduate student Zachary Wensley (Raynham, Mass.), who allowed five earned runs on seven hits over 2.1 innings. In relief, freshman Conor Quinlan (Taunton, Mass.) and junior Cameron Herndon (Floresville, Texas) each threw one hitless shutout inning.

Curry will be back on the diamond on Thursday to face Bridgewater State University on the road at 3:30 p.m.
