Colonels Split Road Series With Wentworth

BOSTON, Mass. - The Curry College Baseball team split a conference doubleheader with the Wentworth Leopards Saturday afternoon.

With the split, Curry continues at 9-14 overall and 2-6 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC).

Game 1: Curry 6, Wentworth 13

The Colonels tallied runs on the board first in the opening matchup, Garrett Fosher (Exeter, N.H.) singling to left field to drive in Ryan Goonan (Raynham, Mass.), putting the Colonels up 1-0. A second run in the top of the first came by way of a bases-loaded walk, pushing Brandon Polanco (Brooklyn, N.Y.) in to score.

The hosting Leopards took a commanding 10-2 lead through the next four innings, including a solo home run from Michael Petit in the bottom of the second.

Colonels' right fielder Brandon Prescod (Brooklyn, N.Y.) put his side back in the scoring column in the top of the sixth with a two-run home run to right field, bringing Curry within six runs of the hosts.

The following inning saw a second two-run shot from the Colonels. Curry sophomore catcher Joan Peralta (Brooklyn, N.Y.) sent his homer over the right-field fence sending himself and Jared Keller (Oxford, Conn.) in to score.

The Leopards tallied two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and held off any further offensive pushes from the visiting Colonels through the ninth, closing out the first of the afternoon matchups 13-6.

Game 2: Curry 6, Wentworth 4

The Colonels took a lead quickly in the second conference matchup of the afternoon. Curry's Julian Jaume (Staten Island, N.Y.) marked a two-RBI single up the middle to push Garrett Fosher and Jason Leonard (Dedham, Mass.) into home putting the Colonels up 2-0.

The third and fourth innings saw a lull in the action between the two sides; both teams marked 1-2-3 innings in the third and fourth.

Brett Heggs (Taunton, Mass.) brought the bats back for the Colonels, doubling to centerfield while driving Jaume in to score.

The Leopards tied the contest at three apiece on a Michael Petit RBI single through the left side in the bottom of the sixth.

Curry freshman outfielder Brett Heggs continued his dominant at-bats in the top of the second, recording a two-RBI single to right field, granting the Colonels a two-run lead. Curry graduate third baseman Jared Keller pushed one more run in for the Colonels with a single up the left side, batting in Prescod and bringing the Curry lead to 6-3.

One run from the hosting Leopards in the bottom of the ninth was not enough to catch the Colonels, solidifying the Curry victory Saturday afternoon in Boston, Mass.

The Colonels get back out on the field Tuesday (4/19) as they host conference opponent Salve Regina on Vallely Diamond at 3 PM.
