Colonels Defeated by Lions in Non-Conference Action

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College Baseball was defeated by the Eastern Nazarene Lions 7-3 Wednesday afternoon on Vallely Diamond.

With the loss, Curry dips to 8-12 overall this season.

Eastern Nazarene took the lead quickly in the afternoon bout, Frank Landeiro marking a solo home run down the leftfield line to grant the Lions a 1-0 lead. A second home run in the top of the third pushed the Lions' lead to 4-0.

The Colonels got their bats moving in the bottom of the third, senior Jason Leonard (Dedham, Mass.) batted in Brett Heggs (Taunton, Mass.) on a sacrifice fly to right field. In the bottom of the fifth, Curry's David DiCicco (Winthrop, Mass.) converted a bunt down the right-field line as Andres Ramos (Sonora, Mexico) scored on an error by the Lions' first baseman. The following at-bat brought the Colonels within one run of the visiting Lions. Freshman outfielder Brett Heggs grounded recorded an RBI on a ground out to first, batting in Erik Leonard (Dedham, Mass.).

Eastern Nazarene would hold off any further scores from the Colonels while also recording three more runs, including two solo home runs in back-to-back at-bats in the top of the eighth inning, taking the contest by a final score of 7-3.

The Colonels were paced by Brett Heggs who batted 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Curry Baseball gets back out on the field Thursday (4/14) as they travel to face the Anchormen of Rhode Island College at 3:30 PM.
