Colonels Stopped Short by Beavers

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College Baseball team fell to non-conference opponent UMaine Farmington 13-12 through 11 innings Sunday afternoon at Vallely Diamond. 

With the loss, Curry dips to 7-7 this season.

Curry College and UMaine Farmington saw four lead changes and four ties in the contest while combining for 39 hits and facing 16 different pitchers between the two teams.

The Colonels tallied their first run in the bottom of the first, Conor Hanlon (Beverly, Mass.) batting in Brandon Polanco (Brooklyn, N.Y.) on a double down the left-field line. Curry took the lead as freshman shortstop Andres Ramos batted in Hanlon.

The visiting UMaine Farmington Beavers regained the lead through the top of the fourth, tallying four additional runs. 

Curry's Hanlon kept the Colonels in the running with a two-RBI triple to left field in the bottom of the fourth. Graduate Jared Keller tied the two sides at five apiece with an RBI single to left-center, driving Hanlon in to score. 

The Beavers tallied three more runs in the top of the sixth to regain the lead once again. 

Curry answered with two runs in the seventh and three in the bottom of the eighth, taking a two-run lead; 10-8. 

UMaine's Ryan Sargent drove in the tying run on a two-RBI home run to right-center. Shortly after, Derek Gendreau would score, pushing the Beavers back in front. 

Curry tied the game at 11-11 in the bottom of the ninth, forcing extra-innings as Brett Heggs (Taunton, Mass.) was escorted home on a two-out bases-loaded walk granted to Andres Ramos (Sonora, Mexico).

Both the Colonels and Beavers marked runs in the 10th inning, Conor Hanlon batting in Kyle Doolin (Stoughton, Mass.) on a sacrifice fly to centerfield. 

The Beavers found the game-winning run in the top of the 11th, LaBossier doubling to drive in Tuttle. 

Curry would be held off by Beaver's reliever Anthony Boyle in the bottom of the 11th, falling to UMaine Farmington by a final score of 13-12.

The Colonels were paced by Conor Hanlon (2-for-4, 4 RBIs, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 3B), James Jackson (Seekonk, Mass.) (3-for-6, 1 RBI, 2 R, 1 2B), and Andres Ramos (2-for-5, 2 RBIs).

Curry College Baseball gets back out on Vallely Diamond Tuesday as they host Framingham State for more non-conference action. First pitch is set for 3 PM.
